Team-mate offers explanation for unfortunate injury to in-form Sheffield Wednesday attacker
The Owls’ win at Wycombe came with one big disappointment...
Jamal Lowe has offered an explanation why in-form team-mate Louie Barry got injured against Wycombe Wanderers.
Barry scored Sheffield Wednesday’s equaliser in their 2-1 win at Adams Park on Tuesday night but was then forced off injured moments later and replaced by Kieran Morrison.
Barry, who has now scored three goals in his last two games, was devastated as he was helped off the pitch. He later returned to the dugout wearing a protective boot and on crutches. The summer signing will go for a scan on his ankle, Henrik Pedersen said, as The Owls wait for news on how long he might be out for.
Also on the scoresheet at Wycombe was Lowe, who confidently netted a penalty to put Wednesday ahead before half-time for his fifth goal of the season. The striker, who was gutted to see his team-mate hobble off, said: “I think because the astroturf is so close to the grass, I think he's rolled his ankle on that astro. I don't know how bad it is, but the astro is ridiculously close to the pitch. Do you know what I mean? If you get your stud caught in there it doesn't move, which ain't great for anyone. Hopefully he's okay, but like I said, he's in great form. He got another goal tonight, and hopefully he's back on the pitch soon.”
Lowe made no mistake from the spot, firing high into the net, after Callum Slattery was fouled in the box and it proved to be the winner as Wednesday moved up to second in the League One table.
The forward added: “Everyone practices pens in training. It’s just a thing right now where I'm just watching the goalie to see what he's going to do. He went quite early. I didn't quite need to go top bins like that, but I kind of already had made my mind up.
“I was told growing up that anything above chest height is kind of unsavable. So sometimes if you go for the high one, unless it goes over the bar, you're pretty much safe. It’s just having the confidence to do it because it could go over the bar. I've hit two over the bar in my career. Right now I feel good, I feel confident, so I went for it.”
