Sheffield Wednesday are among the other Championship clubs reportedly battling for Brewster’s signature, alongside the likes of Leeds United and Huddersfield.

Reports in the national media earlier this week suggested a deal was done to reunite the England youth international with Cooper, who managed the England under-17 side that won the World Cup back in 2017 with Brewster leading the line.

But the Welshman has denied those claims.

Asked about a deal for Brewster, Cooper said: “No update, apart from, it's common knowledge that there's no money," he said on Brewster.

“We're going into January now. We're not going to get frustrated when we see other clubs that are bringing players in and have a few quid to spend.

“We're not going to be comparing ourselves to that because otherwise you're focusing on something that's not in your control.”

Swansea were among the early pace-setters in a crowded top half of the Championship and remain well within reach of the challengers, one point behind sixth-placed Wednesday in ninth.

But they are one of the sides along with Wednesday that will wish to add more firepower to their challenge. No team in the top 15 has scored fewer goals that the Swans.

“We are where we are, and my belief is to work really hard and get the best out of the players we have, because they're giving their best,” Cooper said.

“Until such time that changes, in terms of personnel, I won't think about it but we won't be bringing anyone in.

“Hopefully we can keep hold of the players that we want. But there isn't any news on that either.

“It's not just one way traffic. They can go both ways, but there's no update on ins or outs.”

Wednesday have also been linked with 20-year-old Arsenal forward Eddie Nketiah in recent days, who is expected to be recalled from his loan at Leeds.
