Josh Windass had put the Owls in front on his debut but a howler from Cameron Dawson allowed Barnsley to equalise through Cauley Woodrow and really Wednesday didn’t create enough to warrant taking anything from the game.

Indeed, there probably wouldn’t have been too many arguements had the home side taken all three points as they pressed towards the end.

Owls fans were understandably angry again and it was the players and the management who were on the end of the criticism.

@SheffieldGrad posted on twitter: “A squad of good players should mean that any player not playing well will lose their place in the team or squad. #swfc Wednesday school boy errors should not happen in professional football. A result driven business is affected by poor performances.”

@krisvoakes added: “#SWFC have been pretty terrible to watch all season. So risk averse on the ball, lacking in genuine threat no matter the personnel on the field. The personnel is pretty poor but the manager has us playing below our capacity rather than above it.”

@1867News said: “Today was the reason I don't think we should have started all three new guys and Forestieri. We went very attacking but couldn't win the midfield battle to get the ball down to play. We didn't have a team for the fight Barnsley were up for it.”

“3 new signings and Fernando’s first start for months. It was woeful but always a gamble to make so many changes. Disappointing but a point is better than nothing. Barnsley were worth at least a point,” was @superjeans’ circumspect take on events.

@MattSummerhill added: “#swfc 2nd best in all areas to a team 7 pts from safety. Anyone who didn't think GM had a big job in the summer just watch that game back. Woeful. Hard to pick an MOM, Da Cruz a threat at least. Midfield totally and utterly AWOL don't know how certain players avoid criticism.”

@matt_mgd posted: “Let's get through this season, release every single out of contract player, and start again”

@andymcelwaine looked back at the supposed optimism ahead of this recent stretch of fictures: “Easiest run of the season this, apparently. We’ve got 2 points. Going absolutely nowhere. Roll on the summer”

@Rearn01T said: “Well that was a good £36 wasted . What the hell has happened to us since going 3rd at Xmas? Silly fouls, keep giving ball away and negative tactics. Fans class as always but time to deliver now”

@DaleSugden felt the manager was given a let off from overall criticism because of the Dawson error: “Monk is lucky cause dawson having a mare has took the focus off another terrible team performance...cant see what hes trying to do at the minute...doing a Jos and not picking the best players isnt helping.Just sticking loads of attackers on isnt a plan need a midfield first”

@tjchitt86 said: “Every match recently we've been told there'll be a reaction with a performance and that they've been 'working hard in training'. Wtf are they working on? Why can't we make a 3 yard pass? We're scared to death in and around our own area and sadly Dawson isn't up to it”

@benbrazier put the heat on the boss: “We’re getting worse under Garry Monk. Still not sure what he’s trying to do. Don’t think he is either. Dropping like a stone”

And @michael_1867 summed up many fans’ feelings: “Rubbish again today. Far too many players putting in poor performances. Summer clear out can’t come quick enough”
