The club have said that the trio were offered extensions to complete the season with the club and Owls boss Garry Monk has said that both top scorer Fletcher and left-back Fox had been offered new deals.

Long-serving forward Atdhe Nuhiu has agreed an extension to the end of the season along with back-up goalkeeper Paul Jones.

The departing trio join out-of-favour pair Sam Hutchinson and Sam Winnall out of the door, who will both be released at the end of their contract at the end of the month. It is unknown whether they will be available for selection for Sunday’s trip to Bristol City.

The clash is the first of eight Owls matches in 24 days and leaves them with only 15 senior outfield players to select from.

Asked earlier this month about the futures of Fletcher, who has scored 13 goals this season, and renaissance man Fox, Monk said: “I have had conversations with them and they know very much I want them to stay. The club has been in talks with them.

“Hopefully there can be an agreement and an understanding of how the situation has changed with this pandemic and when it hit and how that has changed a lot of the landscape across football.”“They know that I want them to stay and so do the club. Hopefully we can come to an agreement. We still have time for that and those conversations are ongoing.”
