Goals from Josh Windass and Dominic Iorfa did the business for the home side, who registered a clean sheet that for the most part was never truly in much danger. Fine performances all over the pitch earned the win, which allowed the visitors much of the possession but saw them come up lame.
The performance - and result - wheels them down the road to Bramall Lane on Sunday, with manager Danny Röhl afforded the luxury of spinning his bench over second half.
Here are our ratings from a jump back to the good stuff at Hillsborough.

9. Marvin Johnson - 9
Did so brilliantly to ping that ball across to Ugbo on nine minutes and got his reward moments later when Windass did the business. Could have had a couple more assists. He is showing some remarkable form - a classy customer. | UGC

10. Josh Windass - 8
Needed a cool head and cooler technique to bury his chance for the opener - he did so confidently. Lots of running, lots of pretty stuff. An excellent effort. Off at 66. | UGC

11. Iké Ugbo - 6
Look, you can't miss those. But what was impressive was Ugbo's comeback in battling, battling and never hiding. Made one chance himself with clever body movement. Off spent with 15 to go. | UGC

12. Gabriel Otegbayo - 8
On for the injured Iorfa on 56 minutes for the biggest moment of his career so far and did magnificently, doing his bit with little fuss. Lovely moment with the fans post-match, too. | UGC
