The Owls had chances and dominated possession but couldn’t convert and were hit by a sucker punch just after the break when Alvaro Gimenez opened the scoring for the visitors.

After much probing Kadeem Harris managed to finally get a goal for Wednesday but a point was all they had to show for their efforts and once again it was up front where fans felt the problems lay.

Steven Fletcher was playing as the focal point, but he’s not getting enough backing up there according to Wednesdayites.

@AnthonyPoole posted on twitter: “Truly awful tonight. Scarcely tested a poor Birmingham side. Players don't move the ball quickly enough, we don't want to get into attacking positions, and our decision making remains poor, and far too slow in the final third. It's going to be a long season.”

@owlsfan83 added: “Surely Monk can see playing Fletcher upfront alone is a pointless task? Attack and lets score bloody goals. Must start 2 up top at Charlton and go for it.”

It was a similar reaction from @_MLT92 who said: “Expecting a lone striker in his mid 30s to lead the line, win every ball, and hold up play with no support is outrageous. Fletcher needs support upfront and someone to play off him. Crying out for it for weeks, FF comes on and does it well, no doubt dropped again next week.”

@owls_4life said: “No goals in this team & that puts immense pressure on our defence. The clean sheets have dried up and now 1 goal isn't enough. So wasteful in front of goal, not brave enough, crossing, corners and final ball are abysmal. Slowly sliding down the table, struggling to find a win.”

Others were a little more damning.

@JamesKay89 posted: “We are a poor team in an average division #SWFC. Poor tactics, poor leadership, poor management. Too much deadwood including the management!!”

@owls_dan said: “Someone please tell me what the hype is about fernando! People living in the past, doesn’t even deserve to be in match squad just a lazy n selfish forward! Nuhiu caused more problems in half the time tonight!”
