Here are SIX talking points that emerged from the press conference as he prepares to face Thomas Frank's Bees side at Griffin Park.

Monk on the task that faces his side at Brentford

“They’re a dynamic side and we’ll have to be very good defensively with the same concentration and focus as we had the other night and then what we should be allowed is a bit more offensive play and we need to use that as best we can.”

Is Morgan Fox close to putting pen to paper on a new contract?

“There’s still a few little details – that side of it I don’t really go into, I leave that to the club, the player and his representatives. But all I know is that Morgan is happy. The conversations I’ve had with him, he wants to be here. I’m sure that will be sorted as soon as both parties are happy.”

Monk on how social media has changed the footballing culture

“Unfortunately, I think the mentality has changed a little bit throughout football, especially for the young players coming through because that’s all they really know and to seek approval from that. So I always try to advise the young players that the only approval they need to seek is that of yourself, the people that matter the most and your manager and your coaches. That’s who they need to seek approval from, not someone who doesn’t know you, probably doesn’t even come to games, probably supports another club and is on there pretending to be someone else.”

“Yes, he’s very close. He’s got the potential to do very well and has a big future. He came on against Manchester City with some of the best players in the world and wasn’t overawed, wasn’t fazed and it was fantastic to see.”

The fight for the number one spot between Joe Wildsmith and Cameron Dawson

“When they come back in the summer, it’s going to be game on and I think they both understand that and will be pushing the best out of each other.”

Monk on defensive woes since Christmas

“There’s been fitness issues, suspensions, form and those type of things – so it’s been hard to select a consistent (defence). That's what we were before, a consistent line up. But in this period we have had inconsistencies for various reasons. Some have been in our control in terms of form and performances and others in terms of injuries, fitness and freshness that you can’t control.”
