Goals from Josh Windass and Michael Smith did the business for the Owls, who had a huge number of shooting chances and even - this is no print error - won a penalty, which Windass calmly dispatched. The win was a professional and steady away return and a jump back to winning ways.
Chance completion will remain a talking point at Middlewood Road no doubt and James Beadle turned superman when required between the sticks, but Wednesday were the better side and fully deserved their win on the road on a night their hosts clearly had their issues.
Here are our ratings from a chilly but satisfying evening for Sheffield Wednesday at the MKM Stadium.

9. Josh Windass - 7
Found himself in front of goal early doors - should have hit the target. Made up for it not long afterwards by slotting a penalty with little fuss. Looked lively, intriguingly pulled off at the break for Musaba. | UGC

10. Djeidi Gassama - 6
Had an early shot blocked having jinked his way into a good position. Worked hard against the ball and got them up the pitch on occasion, but couldn't quite make the most of a couple of big moments in possession. | UGC

11. Iké Ugbo - 6
Good early chance pushed wide. Again, got into some good positions and did his bit but goes another one without that holy grail of a goal. Off at half-time for Smith. | UGC

12. Michael Smith - 7
On at the break for Ugbo. Provided big effort and a focal point, won aerials, almost put Musaba in to seal it... and then did it himself with roles reversed late on. | UGC
