Six more potential transfer targets that would improve Sheffield Wednesday next season

But summer it just about is and looking beyond the woodland of nine remaining league matches, contract queries and legal battles, next season is somewhere on the horizon.

Our Owls writing team looked at three players apiece that they believe would improve Sheffield Wednesday’s chances next season.

Joe Crann – @YesWeCrann

Oliver Skipp (Tottenham Hotspur)

The 19-year- midfielder could be a potential loan option for Wednesday, though it relies on Spurs' willingness to loan him out, and what division they'd like him to be in. He's not played much senior football, but did play eight games in 2019/20 (including two in the UEFA Champions League) and big things are expected of the versatile youngster. A spell in the second tier might be seen as something that would benefit him.

Jed Wallace (Millwall)

He's not a man that would could cheap, and Millwall will be very reluctant to sell him, but Wallace would be a huge signing for the Owls. He's said to have attracted Premier League interest earlier in the year, and the London club managed to keep hold of him, so it's likely the he could well be out of SWFC's price range. His 10 goals and eight assists in the Championship this season have understandably caught the eye.

Cyle Larin (Besiktas)

The Canadian international has been tearing up the Belgian Pro League this season with Zulte Waragem on loan from Besiktas in Turkey, scoring seven and assisting ten in 29 games so far. He was linked with Leeds United in the past, but it would only take upwards of £2m for the Turkish side to make a profit on what they paid out to Orlando City in 2018. He's scored goals wherever he's been, and is still only 25, however he has recently stated his wish to push on at Besiktas after his current loan is over.

James Garner (Manchester United)

An all-action young midfielder with a burgeoning reputation, it seems England youth starlet James Garner will likely get a taste of action away from Old Trafford next season as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer prepares to expand his development. Wednesday are one of the teams linked and will face stiff competition, with The Star understanding that United would prefer a loan move to a top tier outfit.

Jacob Murphy (Newcastle)

Having scored with his first touch in Wednesday colours in their South Yorkshire derby win over Barnsley earlier this season Murphy stuttered for momentum for much of his 2019 Hillsborough stint. That said he has been a new man since the turn of the year – the Owls’ best performer in a painfully difficult few months. With a possible Toon takeover looming it looks unlikely Murphy will be needed at parent club Newcastle and another season with Wednesday would offer stability he’s not had much of in his career so far.

Jackson Irvine (Hull)

The Tigers are yet to take out the extra year’s option on 27-year-old Australian international Jackson Irvine and he’s a player that would suit Monk’s profile. He’s been steady rather than spectacular in Hull colours since building a reputation at Burton Albion but is a player that would add quality and an attacking threat to a shape-shifting Owls midfield. There’d be competition for his signature.
