Wednesday defender Liam Palmer has once again been included and could well be build on his seven caps. Clarke’s side face matches against Austria, Israel and the Faroe Islands.

Among the strikers Paterson has been left out for is in-form Southampton man Che Adams, who has received his first call-up. Leicester-born Adams qualifies to play for Scotland through a maternal grandparent.

Sheffield United striker Oli McBurnie was also selected ahead of Paterson along with QPR’s Lyndon Dykes and Hibs’ Kevin Nisbet.

As it stands Scotland do not have any friendlies lined up ahead of their Euros opener with Czech Republic on June 14.

The big Scot has found himself rotated in selection since the unveiling of Darren Moore as Owls boss earlier this month.

Moore said he had no conflict on where he saw him playing: “We spoke about him playing as a number nine.

“I said to him 'come on', a striker wants to feel the back of the net and get those chances. He'll be a huge player for us. The more chances he gets, I'm sure he'll score more goals and that's the main thing.”
