'That shirt and badge used to be a thing of pride' - Sheffield Wednesday fans have their say on Barnsley defeat

Tony Pulis, the Sheffield Wednesday manager, is still searching for his first win since taking over at the club after watching his side slump to a 2-1 defeat to South Yorkshire rivals Barnsley at Hillsborough this afternoon.

It is now seven games without a victory for the former Stoke City boss as the visitors overcame the setback of going behind to an early Josh Windass strike to emerge victorious courtesy of goals from Cauley Woodrow and Dominik Frieser.

The defeat was Wednesday’s first against their neighbours from the other side of the M1 since 2009.

But more worryingly for the Owls is they’re now without a win since beating AFC Bournemouth eight games ago in early November – and to compound their misery, Pulis confirmed after the game that defender Dominic Iorfa will miss the rest of the season after rupturing his achilles tendon today.

However, despite the defeat, Wednesday remain four points adrift of safety at the foot of the Sky Bet Championship due to Nottingham Forest – who the Owls play at the City Ground on Tuesday night – losing 3-1 at home to Brentford.

Here’s what Wednesday supporters are saying on Twitter this evening following yet another defeat for their side.

@tezowl Well one thing with this team, at least we're consistent

@stinkypete321 Desperately, desperately poor. Shame on the manager, chairman and players. That shirt and badge used to be a thing of pride. You lot are simply incompetent

@AnalyticsOwls On the back of this, it's no surprise that our xG and actual goals scored is consistently low with how we have lined up this season. Before today #SWFC had the lowest shots per game in the Championship at 8.7, no doubt contributing to only 10 goals scored so far (2nd lowest).

@VGTIPS1 Wouldn’t be in this position had Benitez not left #nufc and Steve Bruce stayed at Hillsborough. Players liked him and understood what he wanted. Some of the same players Monk sent packing or ‘to Coventry.’

@sam31405869 Can’t even be bothered to read or waste energy on Wednesday tonight. This set of players are a disgrace.

@MrPaulPashley Best part of that game was Paterson breaking the chair when he came off. At least his hands work (not sure about his feet)

@RocketOwl1986 That play-off final team and style of playing to this in less than five years?? Shocking leadership from the top of this football club!! Wake up chairman and appoint a proper director of football NOW

@BonningtonAlex When's the public apology from players and staff?

@Flockowl “You’re not fit to wear the shirt”

@Majortarantino I reckon Paterson smashing the seat was our best move of the game other than the goal #swfc

@Dastardly_Mutt There should be enough in that team to avoid relegation but we need goals. Confidence low. Pulis wants them to play his way rather than adapt a system that works with what he has. It’s difficult to see where goals are coming from so try something different

@SteSpen5 3 pts from 21 under Pulis. In the last week, I’ve gone from wanting to give the guy a pass because they’re not his players to being done with the lot of them. This might be the low-point of my 35 years of watching. The mismanagement of our club is becoming a tragedy.
