Sheffield Wednesday’s unpaid wages progress as Darren Moore keeps on working
Darren Moore’s preparations for the 2021/22 campaign have certainly not been easy, but there seem to be some springs of hope coming out of Hillsborough now.
A reported transfer embargo and an ongoing situation regarding unpaid wages has made things tough for the Owls boss as he looks to put together a side for their first season back down in League One, with recruitment being somewhat hamstrung as long as those issues remain.
The Star reported late last month that a number of players were considering handing in their 15-day notice at the club on the back of going more than two months without their full wages, however at this point it remains to be seen if any of them actually followed through with it.
Now, with the start of preseason just a couple of weeks away, it is thought that progress is being made by the club in terms of sorting out some of the outstanding payments at the club – with some money now filtering through to those that are still owed money.
While it’s not yet enough to bring an end to the concerns over the club’s financial situation, there do seem to be promising signs that there could well be some light at the end of the tunnel.
On top of that, The Star also understands that Wednesday may also be able to file their 2019/20 accounts in the not-so-distant future, a move that is expected to lift the embargo that they’re reportedly under at present.
Though it’s not been easy for Moore, it’s thought that he’s working incredibly hard behind the scenes, and is enjoying a good relationship with owner and chairman, Dejphon Chansiri with whom he is in regular contact.
Moore’s relationship with Chansiri is believed to be the strongest that the chairman has had with any manager since Carlos Carvalhal’s time at Hillsborough, another aspect that should be seen as a positive for Wednesdayites as they wait to find out the fixtures for 2021/22 on June 24th.
Wednesday are expected to announce season ticket details for the new campaign this week, and – despite it seemingly being quiet at S6 – there is plenty going on behind the scenes with next season in mind.
