Garry Monk and his side will go up against Darrell Clarke’s League Two outfit on Saturday afternoon as the 2020/21 season gets officially underway at the Banks’s Stadium, and it was an unhappy visit for Wednesday the last time they made that trip – losing 2-1 on Boxing Day in 2011 after the hosts scored twice in injury time.
In fact, SWFC haven’t won any of their last three encounters with Walsall, with their last meeting – in March 2012 – ending in a 2-2 draw thanks to a last gasp strike from Gary Madine in stoppage time.

Hide AdOverall it is the Sheffield side that have the upper hand, winning 10 of their 22 encounters since Wednesday’s 2-0 win back in their first meeting in 1899, but you have to go all the way back to February 2002 to find the last time they managed an away win.
Monk will be hoping to change that this weekend in what will be the first game of a tough season for the Owls, and it appears that he’ll have almost a clean bill of health as they seek to kick off 2020/21 with a bang in the West Midlands.
Walsall faced Birmingham in a preseason friendly this afternoon, losing 3-0 to their Championship opponents with an experimental side from Darrell Clarke that included several trialists.
