Over the years, some big-money signings have flopped and ended up leaving for nothing, while others have gone on to become club legends and more than justified their costly price.With spending in football being reigned in among ongoing financial uncertainty caused by Covid-19, we aren't expecting to see a huge amount of record deals landed this summer, but there could yet be some surprises ahead of the 2021/22 campaign kicking off in August.In the meantime, for a bit of pre-season fun, we've taken a look at every League One club's record signing fee, as well as the side they turn out for now.Here's a look at how Sheffield Wednesday s record signing fee shapes up against every other club they'll be facing in League One this season:

Record signing: Byron Harrison. Estimated transfer fee: £25k+ (from Stevenage in 2012). Current club: Now 34, he was recently released by National League side Altrincham. Harrison helped Barrow AFC win the National League in 2020.
Record signing: Jermaine McGlashan. Estimated transfer fee: £50k (from Aldershot Town in 2012). Current club: He made over 100 appearances for Cheltenham, before joining Gillingham in 2014. He's now the joint-manager of Ashford Town U18s.

Record signing: Tony Battersby. Estimated transfer fee: £75k (from Bury in 1998). Current club: The ultimate journeyman, Battersby has played for no less than 29 clubs. He's still on the books at Boston Town.
Record signing: Ian Craney. Estimated transfer fee: £114k (from Swansea City in 2008). Current club: Craney spent a total of three spells with the club, winning the Conference National in his first spell. He retired in 2015.
Record signing: Oliver Norburn. Estimated transfer fee: £170k+ (from Tranmere in 2018). Current club: He still with the Shrews, and made 38 appearances for the club last season.
Record signing: Steve Claridge. Estimated transfer fee: £190k (from Luton Town in 1992). Current club: He finished his playing career at Gosport Borough in 2012.
Record signing: Neil Sorvel. Estimated transfer fee: £175k (from Shrewsbury Town in 2007). Current club: He's now the assistant manager of Altrincham FC.
Record signing: Darren Currie. Estimated transfer fee: £200k (from Barnet in 2001). Current club: He's currently joint-manager of Sheffield United's U23 side.
Record signing: Kieran Agard. Estimated transfer fee: £250k (from Bristol City in 2016). Current club: He's just been released by MK Dons, after five seasons. He scored 20 league goals in 2018/19, when the side won promotion to League One.
Record signing: Kyle Dempsey. Estimated transfer fee: £400k (from Huddersfield Town in 2017). Current club: He's now the captain of Gillingham, and was named their Player of the Season for his efforts in the 2020/21 campaign.
Record signing: Freddie Ladapo. Estimated transfer fee: £500k (from Plymouth Argyle in 2019). Current club: He's still a Rotherham player, and netted nine Championship goals last season despite his side's eventual relegation.
Record signing: Liam Boyce. Estimated transfer fee: £500k (from Ross County in 2017). Current club: He spent two and a half seasons with the Brewers, before joining Hearts in 2020. He netted 14 goals in the Scottish Championship last season.
Record signing: Steven MacLean. Estimated transfer fee: £500k (from Cardiff City in 2008). Current club: He's now coaching at St Johnstone, after rounding off his playing career with Hearts last year.
Record signing: Carl Asaba. Estimated transfer fee: £600k (from Reading in 1998). Current club: After scoring 40 goals in 90 games for the club, he went to Sheffield United, Stoke City, and rounded off his career with Millwall in 2006.
Record signing: Marvin Johnson. Estimated transfer fee: £650k (from Motherwell in 2016). Current club: The winger went on to join Middlesbrough, but was released by the Championship side at the end of last season.
Record signing: Rodney Jack. Estimated transfer fee: £650k (from Torquay United in 1998). Current club: Jack retired in 2012, finishing his career with Nantwich Town. He scored 23 international goals for Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
Record signing: Billy Sharp. Estimated transfer fee: £1.1m (from Sheffield United in 2010). Current club: Sharp, now 35, went on to play for Southampton and Leeds, before re-joining the Blades for a third time in 2015.
Record signing: Jason Euell. Estimated transfer fee: £4.75m (from Wimbledon in 2001). Current club: Euell had a second spell with the Addicks in 2011/12, before retiring. He's now a first-team coach at Charlton.
Record signing: Matteo Sereni. Estimated transfer fee: £4.75m (from Sampdoria in 2001). Current club: After failing to save Ipswich from relegation, he was loaned to Brescia, before moving to Lazio permanently. He retired in 2011.
Record signing: Mauro Boselli. Estimated transfer fee: £6.5m (from Estudiantes in 201). Current club: He's now banging in the goal for Paraguayan side Club Cerro Porteno, after reigniting his career with Mexican team Leon.
Record signing: Johan Elmander. Estimated transfer fee: £8m (from Toulouse in 2008). Current club: He retired in 2017, ending his career with former club Orgryte IS. The 85-cap Sweden international won two Super Lig titles on the trot with Galatasaray after leaving Bolton.
Record signing: Jordan Rhodes. Estimated transfer fee: £8m (from Middlesbrough in 2017). Current club: Rhodes left the Owls at the end of last season, and has recently re-joined his former club Huddersfield Town
Record signing: Peter Crouch. Estimated transfer fee: £11m (from Liverpool in 2008). Current club: Crouch called time on his playing career in 2019, and is now best known for his podcast and punditry work.
Record signing: Didier Ndong. Estimated transfer fee: £13.6m (from Lorient in 2016). Current club: He's now turning out for Ligue 2 side Dijon.
