Sheffield Wednesday's new manager has been confirmed as Tony Pulis

It has been confirmed tonight that Pulis, who has previously had stints with the likes of Middlesborough and Crystal Palace, as well as a lengthy period with Stoke City, has taken over the role at Wednesday that was recently vacated by outgoing manager, Garry Monk.

Wednesday’s official Twitter account said that they ‘delighted’ to announce the news of Pulis’ arrival in South Yorkshire, although it remains to be seen when he will meet his new players and get started at Middlewood Road.

Dejphon Chansiri has moved swiftly to find Monk’s replacement at S6 following the decision to part ways with the previous manager earlier this week, meaning that he will be installed in time for the trip to Preston North End on November 21st.

The club said on their official website tonight, "Sheffield Wednesday are pleased to announce the appointment of Tony Pulis as our new first team manager.

“Pulis brings a wealth of experience to Hillsborough having overseen a mammoth 1,123 senior games through almost three decades in the dugout. Prior to that, the Welshman made 326 appearances for a raft of clubs as an uncompromising defender.

“With a future career on the other side of the white line in mind, Pulis earned his FA coaching badge aged just 19 and UEFA ‘A’ licence two years later.”

Pulis has a long career in the game in various different divisions, including a long spell in the Premier League, and has no doubt been hired in large part due to his extensive knowledge of the Championship.

If he can pick up a debut win with the Owls against Preston this weekend, it will be his 100th Championship victory since the league was formed.

Meanwhile, in what can be seen as an interesting coincidence, Pulis will replace Monk once again after he did the same following his exit from Middlesbrough – and on that occasion his first game in charge was also away at Deepdale against PNE. His side won 3-2.
