The 24-year-old is becoming known for his marauding runs from the back and the physicality in his play at the heart of the Wednesday backline, and he’s currently the only Owls defender to have played more than 2500 league minutes in the Championship this season.

As a regular in Garry Monk’s side this season, the defender leads the way in terms of total successful tackles (70), clearances (124) and blocks (46), with his performances seeing him make the top three for four of the seven Player of the Month awards at the club - winning it in November.

Now, with football still at a standstill during the Coronavirus pandemic, the former Ipswich Town man has opened up about the season so far in his first full campaign in blue and white stripes.

Sheffield Wednesday’s most important player?

Speaking to Yorkshire Live about his season so far, Iorfa said, "I have personally enjoyed the season. I feel like I have learned a lot… I have always seen centre-back as my long-term position but I hadn't really played there until this year.

"My target was to play as much as I can and try and play at centre-half, the gaffer has come in and he has trusted me in that position.

"This is the most games I have played at centre-back, I had only really played a handful of games at centre-half coming into the season. I have enjoyed the opportunity to play there. I still feel like I am learning my trade in that position and learning new things every day.”

And he pointed to Monk for his help in helping him improve in that position, explaining that there’s more to come, as he said, "The gaffer has been good to me; he used to be a defender and has given me a lot of advice. He has chucked me in there and helped me improve certain things.

"I still think there is more to come from me and things I can improve. I think every player would say that to be fair. No one is comfortable with where they are and everyone is aspiring to get to the top level.”

Iorfa has been one of the few players to receive relatively consistent plaudits in 2019/20 for the Owls in what has been a bit of a topsy-turvy season, and will be eager to keep it that way when – or even if – the season continues at some point in June once sporting events are given the green light to get underway again, though as things stand there has been no official date given regarding what point the English Football League will be able to get underway again.
