Sheffield Wednesday's 2026/2027 League One line-up confirmed after Wembley showdown
The 2025/2026 play-offs concluded on Bank Holiday Monday
Sheffield Wednesday will play Notts County in a league game for the first time in 14 years next season.
The Owls will be competing in League One for the fourth time since 2003 after relegation from the Championship this term following administration and an 18-point deduction. But there is plenty of optimism around the club after the takeover by US consortium Arise Capital Partners, led by David Storch.
Wednesday feared another points deduction of minus 15 next season which would have likely landed them in a relegation battle. But those worries have been eased, with Henrik Pedersen’s men definitely starting on level terms as their rivals on zero points.
The League One fixtures will be released on Thursday, June 25 at 12noon and the line-up for the division is now fully complete after the conclusion of the League Two play-off final at Wembley on Bank Holiday Monday.
In sweltering heat, Notts County beat Salford City 3-0, thanks to first-half goals from Alassana Jatta and Lucas Netts. Jodi Jones netted a third with 20 minutes remaining. Notts are managed by former Burnley striker Martin Paterson.
Victory sealed promotion to the third-tier for Notts, meaning they will face Wednesday in a league game for the first time since 2012, which was also a League One clash, with The Owls winning 2-1 at Meadow Lane after strikes from Ryan Lowe and Gary Madine. That victory was part of an incredible surge towards automatic promotion, pipping rivals Sheffield United on the final day of the season.
The two teams last met in the League Cup in 2014 with Wednesday winning 3-0. The goals came from Jacques Maghoma, Gary Madine and Adthe Nuhiu.
A visit to Meadow Lane will no doubt prove popular with Owls fans, who have snapped up more than 15,000 season tickets since they went on sale just over a week ago.
