Defensive trio Liam Palmer, Glenn Loovens and Morgan Fox played the full 90 minutes in the Owls Under-23s 1-1 draw at Barnsley.
Palmer, Loovens and Fox came through unscathed at the Oakwell training centre today as Wednesday came-from-behind to snatch a point. A second half strike by young forward Warren Clarke cancelled out Cameron McGeehan’s 34th minute opener.
“They are great lads and put a shift in,” development boss Neil Thompson told The Star. “Their attitude was spot on.
“It’s great for the young lads to see how they conduct themselves and how they play the game. They do the simple things really well.
“Sometimes young players think they have to look a million dollars but the key is not to overcomplicate the game.”
With Jack Hunt expected to be out of action for a “few weeks” with his knee injury, Palmer is in contention to start at right-back away at Bolton Wanderers after the international break. Palmer replaced Hunt in the first half of Sunday’s much-needed win over Leeds and featured prominently in the Owls’ second goal.
Club captain Loovens is nearing full fitness, having played twice in the space of four days.
Both Loovens and Fox were given run-outs in the behind-closed-doors friendly match with Mansfield Town last Tuesday. Loovens lasted 65 minutes and Fox played the full game.
Thompson added: “It’s all in their locker and they will be ready to go next week.”
