Sheffield Wednesday winger on ‘perfect player to have in the box’

Steven Fletcher’s injury certainly played a part in Sheffield Wednesday’s drop in form, and his teammate, Kadeem Harris, says he’s ‘the perfect player to have in the box’ for a winger.

Harris has been one of Wednesday’s most-used players in 2019/20 so far, with only Barry Bannan (35) having played more Championship games than the former Cardiff City man (34), and with three goals and three assists he’s directly contributed to 13% of their goals so far.

Fletcher, meanwhile, has scored 13 goals as he reached double figures for the Owls once again, and Harris will no doubt be hoping that he pens a new deal to extend his stay at Hillsborough so that they can work on forming a deadly partnership in the 2020/21 season ahead.

Two of Harris’ assists were converted by ‘Fletch’ – once against his former club, Brentford, and once against Huddersfield Town – and there will be hope among Wednesdayites that they can see the pair combine more before the season is out given how much the Owls felt Fletcher’s absence during his time out injured.

When asked about the 33-year-old Scotsman’s qualities, Harris told the Star, “Having someone like Fletch is perfect for someone like me, it’s the perfect player to have in the box. I like to beat a man and get the ball to the back stick or just in the box in general, and he’s deadly there.

“As you’ve seen a couple of times this season, myself or somebody else has got something in there and he’s been clinical. Having a clinical striker like that, with his experiences as a pro, it’s great for a player like me.

“Him getting injured was a massive loss for the team, but you can’t blame our entire form on that, there are 11 players out there and we’ve got a good squad.”

Harris signed a two-year deal with the Owls when he joined from Cardiff around 10 months ago, and will be itching to get back out on the field once the green light is given for football in England to get going again amid the Coronavirus pandemic that has caused havoc across the globe.
