Sheffield Wednesday want Championship season to be completed

Sheffield Wednesday along with the rest of the Championship have backed the completion of the league season when the coronavirus threat decreases.

The clubs reportedly held a video conference on Tuesday where they indicated that it would be their preference for the division to pick up where it left off last week, following the decision by the EFL to suspend matches until at least April 3.

Debate has raged as to how things would pan out in the wake of football’s shutdown, and teams currently in the top six got together on Monday to decide that they would push for the season to be completed.

They were backed by the rest of the league on Tuesday and the EFL board will now meet on Wednesday to discuss the matter officially.

Wednesday were 15th in the table before the season was brought to a halt on Friday – nine points off the relegation zone and eight points away from the play-off places.
