Sheffield Wednesday will be hoping the so-called new manager bounce is nowhere to be seen when AFC Wimbledon visit Hillsborough this afternoon.

The Dons, who are winless in 21 games in all competitions and have lost five in row, appointed Mark Bowen as their new boss this week as they bid to stay in League One.

The Owls need a win themselves, but for different reasons entirely.

They are looking to solidify their place in the top six.

Wimbledon almost have the final say - 1-1 HT

Jack Rudoni fires just over from outside the area.

Wednesday need to find another gear in the second half. Wimbledon have grown into this and will fancy their chances.

Chance for Wednesday

The first one for a while. Bannan’s free-kick is floated in and almost met by the well-timed run of Dominic Iorfa, who can quite beat the onrushing keeper to the ball.

They win a fortuitous free-kick in a dangerous position on the right-hand side. Even their analysts are laughing about getting away with one.

The delivers causes havoc in the box and is almost headed in but for some brave last-ditch defending from Harlee Dean, who sticks his head where it hurts to clear before a Dons attacker can connect.

Wimbledon enjoying a spell

Johnson clears one from close range from a corner. Not sure if that was going in, but Wimbledon have their tails up here and another chance from a corner is flicked over the bar. A bit of a let-off for Wednesday...

Good play from the Owls

Byers and Mendez-Laing exchange a lovely one-two which sets the winger free, he delivers a cross towards Gregory which is cut out just in time.

Wimbledon are in this and are asking one or two more questions of their hosts, who force a corner that’s cleared comfortably.

Out of nowhere Wimbledon equalise. The ball is played forward in a rare attack before it’s cut back from the byline into the path of attacking midfielder Ayoub Assal, who fires into the roof of the net.

That was Wimbledon’s first effort on goal.

The Owls go straight up the other end and should have a corner after Lee Gregory’s header hits a Dons player before going out, but the referee flags for a goal-kick.
