Kieran Lee has received the tonic of an award nomination as he tries to fight his way back into the Owls team.

The right back is shortlisted for the npower League One Player of the Year honour at the 2012 Northwest Football Awards.

It is recognition of his performances for Oldham last season before he made the summer switch to Hillsborough.

It is also a reminder of the potential that he possesses and the reason why Dave Jones signed him - though he has made only two appearances for Wednesday so far.

The 24-year-old made his debut last month but was unlucky to suffer a deep gash to his ankle in only his second game.

Previous first choice Lewis Buxton returned to the side last Saturday after his five-week absence with a hamstring injury.

The award nomination could be a consolation for Lee as he recovers from his injury and tries again to establish himself in the side.

He won Oldham fans’ and players’ Player of the Year awards for the last two seasons but saw the move to Wednesday as a step up in his career.

His rivals for the Northwest honour are Bury midfield man David Worrall, Carlisle striker Lee Miller, Preston goalkeeper Thorsten Stuckmann, Rochdale midfield player Jason Kennedy and former Tranmere defender David Buchanan, who now plays for Preston.

Fans can vote by visiting or Facebook at, before October 29.

The awards night will take place at Lancashire CCC’s Old Trafford centre on November 12.

The Owls’ achievement of promotion is celebrated in a new DVD collection.

The Sheffield Wednesday 2011/12 Promotion Collection DVD box set revisits the story of last season and how a 54-match campaign ended in glory.

It includes a DVD on the two derbies against United: the 2-2 fightback at Bramall Lane and the 1-0 victory at Hillsborough.

The collection is on sale now at the Owls’ store and online at, and at other outlets, and is priced at £17.99.
