Sheffield Wednesday transfer rumours: Owls could lose battle for League One star, Villa ace in high-demand

Sheffield Wednesday will be looking to return to winning ways this weekend, when they take on Alex Neil's Preston North End at Hillsborough on Saturday afternoon.

As things stand, the Owls are six points adrift of safety, down in 23rd place, but if they can start stringing some wins together a push to safety is well within their grasp.

Speaking to the Star ahead of tomorrow's game, caretaker boss Neil Thompson refused to blame his side's COVID-19 enforced break from second-tier action for their loss to Coventry City in midweek.

He claimed: "We’ve got to keep positive. We’ve got to re-group, it can be difficult but we don’t have time to breathe now in terms of the programme.

We’re going to get twists and turns and ups and downs and tonight was a difficult one for us to take. But we’ve got to take it on the chin, analyse it and move on.”

Meanwhile, Wednesday's hunt for a new manager is now into its second month, and rumours continue to circulate over who could become Tony Pulis' successor, with a host of candidates linked to the job since the new year began.
