Sheffield Wednesday transfer news: 'Fresh doubt' over Owls swoop, Big name 'wanted to leave' club this season

Sheffield Wednesday may have reached a decision over whether or not they will offer a contract to free agent Ravel Morrison.

That’s according to reports that suggest the former Manchester United man was absent from the Owls’ training session on Thursday.

Morrison has joined up with Darren Moore’s squad in recent weeks after leaving Dutch outfit ADO Den Haag in the January transfer window.

Last week, Moore revealed that he and his staff would make a decision on the 28-year-old “in the next two, three, four days”.

The Wednesday boss also added: “At this stage of the season in terms of free transfers, you don’t doubt their ability, it’s whether they’re in a position to contribute physically.

“The problem you have with them is that they’ve not trained an awful lot in an environment and usually it takes time to get them up to speed.

“There are free transfers out there, but it’s a case of whether they can contribute to where we are at at this stage of the season.”

Morrison’s absence on Thursday is said to have cast “fresh doubt” over his chances of landing a deal.

Elsewhere, goalkeeper Keiren Westwood has admitted that he “wanted to leave " Wednesday earlier in the season – and had opportunities to do so.

The stopper has been at Hillsborough since 2014, and has made almost 200 appearances for the Owls since, but has struggled for regular game time this season, and has been limited to just 14 outings in the Championship.

Speaking to talkSPORT reporter Ian Abrahams on his personal Instagram account, the Irish keeper said: “Obviously at the start of the season I wasn’t involved, probably should have left, probably should have gone.

"[I had a] few opportunities to go and if I’m honest, it was the first time in my Sheffield Wednesday career that I actually wanted to leave.”

Westwood has kept four clean sheets for Wednesday this season, bringing his total tally to 71 for the club.

The 36-year-old has started two of the Owls’ last three matches in the Championship, but was out of the squad again for the 2-1 win over Barnsley last time out.
