Sheffield Wednesday transfer news: ex-Owl gives verdict on major squad overhaul

Sheffield Wednesday's hopes of avoiding the drop down to the third-tier took another brutal blow on Tuesday night, when they lost 2-0 to high-flying Swansea City at Hillsborough - a result made worse by the fact fellow-strugglers Rotherham United picked up a shock 3-1 win against QPR.

Currently, Darren Moore' s side are seven points adrift of safety, and will need a serious turn-around in their fortunes if they're to close the gap on 21st place Coventry City.

Speaking after the defeat, Moore insisted he's not yet given up hope second-tier survival, and claimed: “The maths and the numbers are still there and while that’s the case, without a doubt, anybody who knows me will know we’ll be looking towards those three points on Saturday. That’s all it is.

“We isolate those three points, another home game on Saturday, and we have to go again. I won’t get detracted from thinking anywhere but there. While those number are still there we’ll keep fighting.”

The Owls host Bristol City this weekend, whose manager, former Wednesday star Nigel Pearson, could be set for the sack despite only being given the job back in February, after a dismal start to his Robins reign with just two wins from nine matches.

Here are today's biggest transfer stories and the latest team news involving Sheffield Wednesday and the rest of the Championship, as the build-up to the weekend's action continues:
