The Star has been led to believe that Wednesday have now exercised a one-year option on the former Manchester City youngster, and he’ll be hoping to try and impress in the coming weeks as he takes aim at a potential senior debut before the season is out.

Hughes joined the Owls from City back in 2016, and was on the bench for Wednesday against Leeds United in January prior to the Coronavirus shutdown. Now, having spent some time training with the first team, he’ll be hoping to get his chance in the big leagues in the coming weeks or months.

The right midfielder/right back has impressed for the U23s of late, and his extended deal alongside the likes of Osaze Urhoghide, Matt Penney and Josh Render bodes well for the future of the club as Monk looks at blooding in some youngsters in 2020/21.

Meanwhile, Hughes may have gotten a runout at Hillsborough today with the team taking to the field at home in an attempt to get used to the atmosphere of playing at S6 behind closed doors.
