David Jones admits being eased into the Sheffield Wednesday set-up has helped the midfielder produce the form he has shown over the last six weeks.
Jones, who signed from Burnley at the beginning of the season, was unfortunately sent off at Brentford in his first start and following that was in and out for the team for a few weeks.
A return to the fold and a glimpse of his real abilities came at Huddersfield last month and since then the 32-year-old has been ever-present. Jones has provided experience and his defensive contribution has been hugely important.
“Coming to a new club, managers will aways have different ideas and philosophies to what I have experienced before,” he said. “It does take time, and for me it’s a different style of play to my previous club. The manager wants you to do different things.
“As the months go on, training, getting to know the manager and players, and how they play, it is easier to slot in. A bit of time does help.
“When I have played, I have enjoyed it and fulfilled the role I think the manager has been asking me to do. Maybe I didn’t start a few games, but it was good to watch and learn, looking at what I needed to be doing to get myself in the team and what the manager expects of me.”
