It has been confirmed that the 31-year-old has had his loan spell at Hillsborough cut short as he recovers from a hamstring injury, with the centre back returning to Cardiff City.

The former Middlesbrough defender joined the Owls as a deadline day signing last year, but managed just four appearances before being struck down with a serious injury against Rotherham United that ended up requiring surgery.

Wednesday’s manager at the time, Garry Monk, spoke of how much of a blow it was to the club given Flint’s experience and solid start to life at the club, and there had remained some hope that he could potentially return to action before the end of the season and still play a role for the club.

Now though, any chance of that happening has been written off, with the club explaining that his loan will not continue any further.

They announced the news today, saying, “The Owls can confirm that Aden Flint has returned to parent club Cardiff. The towering defender joined Wednesday on loan from the Bluebirds in October, making four appearances for the club. We would like to thank Aden for his services and wish him well for the future.”

There is also the matter of Jack Marriott’s future as well, however it appears that no decision has yet been made with regards to whether his loan from Derby County will also be cut short given his respective injury.
