The 20-year-old striker was set to join a Championship club on loan for the second half of the season, with Wednesday, Bristol City and Nottingham Forest all linked with the former Leeds United loanee.

Bristol City were understood to have been the Gunner’s preferred option but head coach Mikel Arteta has now decided to keep Nketiah for the remainder of the season, reports The Athletic.

The England under-21 star had spent the first half of the campaign at Elland Road, having joined on a season-long loan deal in the summer.

However, Nketiah was recalled by Arsenal following a lack of game time – making just two league starts for Marcelo Bielsa's side.

In total, he made 19 appearances in all competitions for Leeds and scored five goals before his return to the Emirates Stadium earlier this month.
