His double in Saturday's 3-1 success at Charlton Athletic helped Wednesday record their first league win in six matches and leaves him just four short of 150 career club goals.

Boss Garry Monk praised Fletcher's match-winning contribution in the capital.

"He deserved his goals," Monk told The Star. "Strikers obviously thrive on goals and that gives them confidence but I think his performances, overall, have been where they need to be."

Fletcher's numbers are impressive. Despite having frequently been asked to play up front on his own under Lee Bullen and now Monk, 22 of Fletcher's 42 shots have been on target. He has played 1564 minutes, scoring 196 minutes per goal and he has also weighed in with an assist.

Fletcher has established himself as an indispensable figure in the side and is on course to beat his previous best goal tally in Owls colours of 12 during the 2016/17 season.

“I think we're going in a great direction with the gaffer and the way he's playing,” stated Scotland international Fletcher.
