When Steve Bruce jumped ship from Sheffield Wednesday to take over as Newcastle United boss in the summer it caused an incredible amount of turmoil at Hillsborough.

For few more so than Kadeem Harris, who had only just made the move to Wednesday.

In fact, as Harris has revealed, Bruce spent a great deal of time telling the winger how much he wanted him in Sheffield and how big a role the former Cardiff City star would be playing in what was a promised push for promotion.

Then in the middle of pre-season, the manager was off back ‘home’.

Harris has admitted that it was a difficult time for him personally, as the 26-year-old was left wondering what lay ahead.

“At first it was a shock, when Steve Bruce left,” he said on Alan Biggs’ Sheffield Live show. “We spoke a lot during the summer, when I was making my decision to come to Sheffield Wednesday and I knew I was a big part of his plans.

“When he did go I was a bit worried, because of past years as it had been as a professional player at Cardiff City, not playing as much as I wanted to and hearing in the summer that I was going to play a lot and I was a big part of the plan.

“I didn't know who was going to come in and take over and if they would have fancied me as a player.

“That was a worrying time but I was trying to stay positive and continue to train hard - everyone was training hard in pre-season and just focus on myself really, to get as fit as I could and put myself in the best position possible so whoever took over put me in their plans as well.”

Harris added: “Thankfully, Lee Bullen took over at the time, who saw me in pre-season, who was a coach at the time with Steve Bruce there and he liked me as a player and gave me that opportunity at the start of the season, thankfully and I felt like I took it.”
