The former Charlton man, who has enjoyed something of a renaissance in his Owls career this season, is understood to be in negotiations with the club over a new contract.

And the 26-year-old admitted the distance from his London-based family is proving tough.

“Obviously these are very tough times,” he said. “I live up here in Sheffield now but all my family are down in Essex, so it’s been a lot of time since I’ve seen family and friends.

“It’s all part of it. We have to stay inside, we have to stay safe and keep obeying by the guidelines. Hopefully it’ll be over sooner rather than later.”

Last week Fox’s full-back colleague Liam Palmer revealed that, like millions of others across the country, quizzes have proven a popular way of keeping in contact within the Wednesday squad.

But speaking to BBC Look North, Fox admitted he was looking around for a new way of staying in touch.

“I’m getting quizzed out now! I do three or four a week, it’s getting too much! But it’s good to socialise, I think when we’re stuck inside and we can’t see everyone face-to-face, it’s nice to see everyone and catch up.

“It shows the bonds that we have, really, whether that be with family, friends or teammates or anyone.

“The whole community, especially where I live, are all coming together. Any elderly people who might need jobs doing, we’re going out and doing them.

“We’ve got a group village chat and everybody is trying to help each other out. I think that’s a massive positive.”

Along with Fletcher, Fox’s contract remains a priority at Sheffield Wednesday, with manager Garry Monk outlining the pair as the key men he’d like to tie down going forward.

Assistant boss Lee Bullen told The Star earlier this month that contract talks with the two star men were ongoing.
