Sheffield Wednesday star man delivers his thoughts on ongoing EFL case

Wednesday were charged with misconduct last year regarding the circumstances around the sale of Hillsborough, which was included in the club’s 2017/18 accounts, in a case that has now dragged on for months.

Last month charges against Owls chairman Dejphon Chansiri, finance director John Redgate and former CEO Katrien Meire were dropped.

Wednesday’s form under Garry Monk took a big dip since the turn of the year, but Iorfa, who has played more minutes than every Wednesday player other than Barry Bannan this season to date, has refused to blame the ongoing case for the side’s drop in form in 2020.

Speaking to Yorkshire Live, the defender said: “I don't think it has affected us as players.

“It is not something that we have really thought about as a group. We don't really deal with that side of things.

“We focus on ourselves on the pitch, it is for the people above us to handle that. It has obviously been there over the course of the season. There has been that uncertainty but that is nothing to do with us. We have to focus on what happens on the pitch. Whatever happens.

“It has been a case of our performances have not been good enough.”

Meanwhile, Wednesday are one of four clubs in the top two tiers of English football taking advantage of a Government extension allowing them to present their accounts for last season as late as July 30.
