Sheffield Wednesday to spend in January? – Here’s what Dejphon Chansiri had to say about the next transfer window

The Owls beat Bournemouth 1-0 and drew 0-0 with Millwall last week, but their biggest boost was the fact that a successful appeal against their 12-point deduction saw their punishment halved to just six points.

Now, with Wednesday eager to climb up the table and away from the relegation zone, Garry Monk will be desperate for his side to start finding the net more often.

There have been calls for a new striker to come in to try and help SWFC’s poor run of form in front of goal, and it does appear that club chairman, Dejphon Chansiri, is open to the possibility of spending some money if January – but only if it’s required.

When The Star ask the chairman whether Monk would have funds in the next transfer window, he replied, “It depends if we need, or not… My policy this summer, I just said, ‘Ok, of course in this situation we don’t have money’. I believe other clubs also don’t want to spend money, so everything must go lower.

“But we’ll try our best. If we don’t need to spend, that’s good, but if we need to spend. If it’s reasonable, then we’ll spend.

“It depends what we need or don’t need. Of course in football, you don’t know. It’s about potential.

“Maybe this player will be good, but nobody knows - you’re not God. This one might come and score a lot, another might not score, we don’t know.

“I just try and support what the coach wants as much as I can. So if you ask me about January, it depends what we need.”

Wednesday have improved drastically in defence so far this season with five clean sheets in 11 games already, however only bottom-of-the-table Derby County have scored less goals (5) than the Owls (6).

Monk will now have a couple of weeks to work on things with his side ahead of a trip to Preston North End after the international break, and he’ll be hoping his strikers can step up to the plate at the next time of asking.
