Garry Monk’s quest to add firepower to his promotion-chasing Sheffield Wednesday squad looks set to continue amid widespread reports that Liverpool youngster Rhian Brewster is set to sign for Swansea City.

The news comes a week after the Owls boss refused to rule the club out of a move for the highly-rated 19-yer-old, who will meet up with his former England under-17 coach Steve Cooper.

Last week Owls boss Garry Monk refused to rule out a potential move for Brewster, but admitted the loan market is highly competitive this time out.

The club have also been linked with Arsenal forward Eddie Nketiah, recalled from Saturday’s opponents an fellow promotion chasers Leeds United, as well as Southampton winger Josh Sims.

Monk said the Owls’ activity in this window is likely to be limited to the loan market.

He said: “With the more talented players, you’re always going to be linked with players, you’re always going to have players touted.

“The more high calibre, the more difficult it is. But we need to keep pushing for those and having discussions.

“Those discussions are going on and we do have certain targets. We’ll try and push for that.”

Brewster came off the bench last night as Liverpool dumped Merseyside rivals Everton out of the FA Cup at Anfield. Reds boss Jurgen Klopp had hinted at the idea that the youngster would be given more time with the first team this season.
