Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Sam Hutchinson flew to Spain this week to see a world-renowned expert as he sought a quick fix for a groin injury.

The 29-year-old old headed to Barcelona for treatment from Doctor Jose Manuel Sanchez who has helped former Arsenal star Mike Arteta and Owls striker Gary Hooper in the past.

Hutchinson will miss Saturday's Championship clash at home to Stoke City but could be back in training after the weekend.

"He was this week three days in Barcelona. He had problems on his groin," Wednesday boss Jos Luhukay said. "When he came back, he had a good feeling and was very positive.

"The doctor was with him every day and talking to him. If everything goes well, he can maybe start training again on Monday. For Saturday, he is not available."

It is the second visit Hutchinson, who was on the bench as the Owls racked up three successive wins before the international break, has paid to Dr Sanchez.

He met up with him earlier this year when he suffered an ankle problem.

Meanwhile, midfield man Almen is in full training following a hamstring issue but is not being rushed by Luhukay.

Almen has suffered a series of ailments since his 2016 switch from Watford.

"He has been completely back in team training for a couple of weeks," the manager said. "But for how long has he been out? He has been here two years and for most of that time he has not been available.

"He is a player who needs time to find his performances and a way back to his best quality. He has had problems with different injuries in the last two years.

"We must see how he does at 100 per cent intensity in training before we can say how close he is to playing games."

Abdi could possibly feature in next Monday's under-23s clash at Leeds United, although Luhukay intimated he may prefer to give game-time to an Academy youngster instead.
