Sergiu Bus hopes to put a “frustrating” first year at Hillsborough behind him and help Wednesday get off to positive start in the 2015/16 season.

The Romanian striker made just two starts after joining the Championship club from Bulgarian side CSKA Sofia in a reported £375,000 deal last February.

After only a couple of first-team appearances, Bus sustained a groin injury in the warm-up away at Derby County, meaning Atdhe Nuhiu was forced to step in at the last minute. That setback resulted in Bus missing seven league matches.

He made a goal-scoring return to action, coming off the bench to find the back of the net against Huddersfield Town in April.

Now Bus is aiming to stay clear of injuries and show head coach Carlos Carvalhal he is worthy of a regular starting role.

Bus, on target in the Owls’ pre-season friendly draw away to Alfreton, told The Star: “It was a little bit frustrating.

“I came here and three weeks after arriving I got injured. Sometimes in your career you have some unlucky moments. The Derby game was one of those moments.

“But that’s football and why it is the best and most beautiful game.”

A former Romanian Under-21 international, Bus admits he feels re-energised following a relaxing summer break.

“I had a good holiday,” he admitted. “I went home to Romania and saw my family.

“To be honest, I have missed my family because they haven’t been able to come over in the last five months or so. It was good to spend some time with them.

“Now I feel well rested and ready to go.”

When pressed on his targets, Bus said: “I just want to help the team, score some goals and be healthy.

“I haven’t set any goal targets. I just want to enjoy the game and do my job.”

With Wednesday having recently drafted in Lucas Joao from Nacional, Carvalhal has plenty of striking options as they prepare to host Bristol City on Saturday.

Bus insisted: “Competition is a good thing at a football club. We will all try to play our best and do what we can to help the team.”
