LiveSheffield Wednesday RECAP: Everything Garry Monk and Dejphon Chansiri had to say on a manic day at S6

There is a very busy day ahead for Sheffield Wednesday with a host of press conferences.

Thursday, 5th November 2020, 10:29 pm

After last night’s big news that the Owls were no longer in the negative points after their 12-point deduction was reduced to just six, the media – ourselves included – will be getting the chance to speak to Wednesday’s chairman, Dejphon Chansiri, as the first of a host of interviews going on throughout the day.

The mood around the club has lifted drastically this week following their win over Bournemouth and the EFL news, and we’ll also be chatting to Garry Monk and Adam Reach before the day is done.

Make sure you keep it locked here for all of the latest Owls news, views and analysis.

‘A theatrical jump’ – Garry Monk confirms Sheffield Wednesday’s appeal

Sheffield Wednesday are still hoping to have Kadeem Harris available for this weekend’s clash with Millwall, and should find out more on his situation later today.

And that’s about that.. from Garry at least..

The salient issues include..

- Aden Flint has undergone surgery for his hamstring injury

- The club have appealed Kadeem Harris’ red card and hope to hear back today

- Delighted to have points back

- Christian Walton links denied

I think a lot of Matt. I think his ability is there. He knows what he needs to do and his difficulty and with younger lads is that we’re in an abnormal season.

Normally you have time to make mistakes or build that level of performance, whether you’re an 18 year old or an experienced pro you have to perform.

It’s a good lesson for all the players, especially the younger ones. You have to make it, you have to do it.

GM on whether u23s will carry on

I haven’t been told it will stop. We work closely with them and hopefully it doesn’t get stopped. We want that continue and be there.

I’ve not heard any different just now. Now you’ve reminded me I’ll go and speak to the doctor and make sure!

GM on links with Christian Walton

I don’t know anything about that.

These two lads are good, Sheffield Wednesday lads. They’re young lads and there will be turbulence one way or another with that.

They have the opportunity to have great careers with this club. They know they have to go out and deliver.

Just like Cammy did when he came in. It’s about consistency, maintaining it. We always push that message and push for that and try to keep that consistent.

In terms of Joe, we expect the standards to be high.

GM on Kadeem Harris not being overturned

It’d be an opportunity for somebody else. It’s not been easy. We’ll see what the outcome is and see where we are there.

GM on Millwall away form

In lockdown, away results have been much better. I don’t know, it’s hard to nail it down to one thing.

You’d think there’d be no advantage but that’s not how it’s happened.

It’s always a difficult game… They’ve got threats, and they’re difficult to beat because of their structure. Hopefully some of the quality we showed on Tuesday we can bring out in this game.

If we can produce a similar level then we can win the game.

I like my teams to be aggressive… Having such a big pitch, which it has been when I’ve been here, we wanted it to feel like we were working in distances that are more aggressive.

We wanted the players to feel closer to each other. It’s not too much, but it’s something I’ve done at every club I’ve been at.

It works out at about two metres each side.

He was back out on the grass and we’re hoping he’ll be back after the international break.

We’ve appealed that. From our point of view it’s not a sending off and if anything it’s the other way around. Kads is trying to get back to his feet.

The other player made a theatrical roll about. We’re hoping he will be available.

We’re human beings. People forget.

At Birmingham we had the experience throughout the season. It dragged on and it does give you a different mentality and approach.

If anything it’s a lot more work than you would normally do.

We’ve done well behind the scenes. But that week that we did have, the work isn’t reflected well enough and that was a disappointment.

GM on player confidence today

Naturally, like anything, you win games and the feeling is always much more positive.

When you have a terrible week like we had, the energy and confidence does take a little bit of a dent. You can’t afford that.

It gives you a good opportunity to respond and if you can manage it then it can be a good thing.
