Wednesday players would like Stuart Gray to be appointed as manager.

That is the firm belief of Jacques Maghoma as the Owls get set to face Charlton away tomorrow in the sixth game of the caretaker boss’s reign.

Maghoma says that Gray has instilled confidence into the squad: “We’ve beaten Watford and Leicester, were a bit unlucky to lose to Forest, and have picked up a good point at Blackburn.

“Stu has give the changing room belief that we can win every game. He knows the players and the club. He knows what everyone can do. I think he’ll be the right man to move us forward.

“I think we respect whatever decision the chairman is going to take. As professionals, we can only worry about putting points on the board; we can’t decide who gets the job or who doesn’t.

“But of course I think I speak for the majority of the group: we all like Stu and hope he gets the job, because he’s a very good coach, and everyone knows what they’re doing since he’s come in.

“I’m not saying that with Dave Jones anything was different, but I think right now you can see the improvement in the squad and the belief that we can go to places such as Blackburn and get a point; we could have nicked a win.

“We had two chances; we didn’t take them; that’s a part of our game that we need to be better at; if we start taking those, we’ll be all right come the end of the season.”

Although the Owls slipped up against Bournemouth in the last home game, Maghoma felt they did improve in the the second half that day and built on that at Ewood Park.
