Sheffield Wednesday players not paid in full – issue 'to be dealt with promptly'

The news follows reports that a similar thing happened in November 2019 and in June this year, though The Star has been given reason to believe some players may have experienced issues with the payment of their wages beyond those months.

Last month’s pay packets came out ‘considerably lighter’ than the player’s total wage, with one national newspaper reporting that they had been paid a maximum of £7,000 each in a first instalment.

Amid these reports, The Star understands players have been told to expect prompt payment of the remainder of their November wages, possibly as soon as today (Thursday).

Asked about the issue last week, Wednesday centre-half Dominic Iorfa declined to denounce the story, saying: “I’ve got nothing to say on a confidential matter. I’m just focusing on the game this weekend.

“We’re hoping to get some wins and turn things around.”

Boss Tony Pulis said he was ‘aware’ of the stories but stressed: “I came up here to try and get results to push the club forward and to have a good look at the place and see how it is run and see what makes the place tick.

“Yes, these problems don't help but I am a football man.”

A month in to his Wednesday tenure, Pulis confirmed on Tuesday that he would be having an ‘honest’ meeting with Owls owner Dejphon Chansiri this week to discuss his assessment of the club.

The Star have contacted Sheffield Wednesday for a response to this story.
