Fernando Forestieri has described losing in the Championship play-offs with Sheffield Wednesday as the "worst feeling" of his life.
Carlos Carvalhal's side came up short in the semi-finals of the end-of-season lottery, losing to Huddersfield Town 4-3 on penalties after the tie finished 1-1 on aggregate.
Forestieri fluffed his lines from 12 yards, with Danny Ward saving his spot-kick to send the Terriers to Wembley. Huddersfield will now face Reading at Wembley for a place in the Premier League while it is the second successive season that the Owls have suffered play-off heartache.
Forestieri tweeted: "I am very gutted to not give you the fans what you all deserve. For me, this is the worst feeling I have felt in my life. I just want to say thanks to all the fans and my team mates for everything."
The 27-year-old finished Wednesday's top-scorer in the 2016/17 campaign, hitting 12 goals in 25 league starts.
