Slovenian international Nejc Pecnik is on the brink of leaving Sheffield Wednesday, writes Dom Howson.
Speaking at his press briefing this morning, Owls manager Dave Jones has confirmed the midfielder, who can also be deployed up front, has no future at Hillsborough.
The 27-year-old, who began his career with hometown club NK Dravograd, has not featured since Wednesday’s FA Cup defeat at MK Dons in January.
Jones said: “We’ve been trying to find Nejc a club. He’s still here because he had an injury so he’s getting back to fitness.
“Unfortunately for Nejc, it didn’t work out but that’s life as a footballer.”
Three of Pecnik’s 14 Owls appearances came in the Capital One Cup.
Jones, meanwhile, has revealed Gary Madine has suffered a grade one/two minor tear in his hamstring and has ruled the striker out of tomorrow’s trip to FA Cup semi-finalists Millwall.
“He’s a young boy so hopefully we will get him back before the end of the week,” he said. “The guys in the medical room will work with Gary and we will see how quickly we can get him back.”
