Dave Jones is engaged in one last try to bring players in before the the new season starts.

The Owls manager has confirmed that trialist centre half Kamil Zayatte is one of his targets.

Jones also remains in the hunt for a striker.

He is running out of time as he attempts to see deals completed before the opening game at QPR on Saturday.

But the August transfer window does not close until the end of the month and he will be unperturbed if he has to be patient.

The outcome of the Zayatte affair almost certainly depends on whether personal terms can be agreed with the former Hull defender.

The fact that he did not figure in last Saturday’s match at Chesterfield - he remained on the bench while Miguel Llera and Anthony Gardner played the whole game - did not signal a lessening of Jones’ interest in him after he played in three friendlies

Although several of the club’s young players have impresed the manager in pre-season, he does not want to throw anyone into the Championship action prematurely: hence his other aim of getting injured men such as Reda Johnson, Lewis Buxton and Jacques Maghoma back as soon as possible.
