SHEFFIELD Wednesday have signed ex-Everton goalkeeper Adam Davies on a month-to-month contract.

The 20-year-old who was released from Goodison Park at the end of last season will be on the bench for the Owls’ match at Blackburn tomorrow after Chris Kirkland was left as the Owls’ only fit keeper.

Stephen Bywater has been ruled out for the rest of the week by pneumonia, and Arron Jameson will be out for six to eight weeks with a recurrence of a groin injury, said manager Dave Jones.

Bywater was unwell last week though he was a sub for the Leeds game.

Jones said of Davies: “He’s a young keeper we’ve been having a look at. He’s capable enough to be offered a contract, and now he has a good opportunity to earn a longer one.”

Striker Jay Bothroyd has been unwell and has been having tests on a stomach probalem. He will be assessed ahead of the Blackburn game.

Rhys McCabe is out of tomorrow’s match because of his thigh condition but could be in contention either this Saturday or the following week.
