Sheffield Wednesday are expected to make two defensive changes when they entertain Barnsley tomorrow (12:30pm).

It appears head coach Carlos Carvalhal has dropped Fox from his starting eleven after allowing him to play for the Owls development squad in their clash at Nottingham Forest this afternoon.

Fox, who has largely been on the periphery this season, was handed a shock start at Derby County last weekend. He lined up in the full-back position but acquitted himself well when asked to fill in at centre-half following Glenn Loovens’ dismissal.

Daniel Pudil and Adam Reach are in contention to replace Fox as Wednesday aim to claim a fourth straight Hillsborough victory over the Reds.

Carvalhal will also be without Loovens, who serves a one-match suspension. Joost van Aken is poised to partner Tom Lees at the heart of their defence.

As for the Owls Under-23s, Neil Thompson’s team secured a 2-2 draw at the City Ground after goals from James Murphy and Connor O’Grady. Senior players Fox, Loovens and Marco Matias were all given run-outs.

Owls Under-23s line-up: Wallis; Baker, Nielsen, Loovens, Fox; Penney, Kirby, Murphy, Matias; Clarke, Borukov. Subs: O’Grady, Walker, Preston, Williams, Waldock.
