Wednesday have agreed to let Danny Mayor stay at Bury on a full transfer, the Lancashire club have revealed.

It is understood that an undisclosed transfer fee is involved.

Mayor is believed to have cost Wednesday £25,000, plus possible add-ons, when they signed him from Preston two years ago but he made only one start for the Owls and eight appearances as a sub.

The winger has been on loan with the Shakers all season and had another year left on his Hillsborough contract.

Owls boss Stuart Gray said recently that a full move to Gigg Lane this summer was under consideration.

Bury chairman Stewart Day said at the Shakers’ end-of-season function last night that a three-year deal had been agreed with the 22-year-old.

Day presented Mayor with the Players’ Player of the Year award.

The Bury chief said: “It is a signing we desperately wanted to make and one we have worked very hard on.

“I believe it shows the ambition of this club and I am delighted to have him on board.”
