Carlos Carvalhal says Sheffield Wednesday’s performance over the last season should be taken as the base standard for next campaign.
And the Portuguese ultimately wants Wednesday to play better football as they look to go one better next term and win promotion to the Premier League.
“We will try to upgrade the team and play better,” Carvalhal told The Star.
“We can’t promise that we go to the Premier League or play-offs because there will be 20 teams who will be fighting for promotion.
“What I can promise is we will try to play the same football or better.
“The fans will enjoy the game and we will play good football.
“If we play good football, we will win more games and after we will see what we can do game by game.
“We are more strong than last year.”
Carvalhal was given a remit of aggressive, attacking football by chairman Dejphon Chansiri when he took charge of the Owls last summer.
