Wednesday legend Don Megson says the “world is the club’s oyster” following their Thai takeover.
Frozen Foods tycoon Dejphon Chansiri acquired a 100% stake in the Championship club yesterday. Chansiri’s family controls the Thai Union Frozen Group, the world’s largest producer of tuna and a major producer of other seafood.
Megson, one of the greatest full-backs in the cub’s history, said: “As long as the new owners have got their hearts in the right place and want to further Wednesday, they 100 per cent get my backing.
“The world is the club’s oyster. I’ve seen the days where Wednesday have been up there with the best. For me, they have always been a sleeping giant. It would be great if these guys could come in and help push the club to get back into the Premier League. Wednesday fans deserve success.”
Ex-Owls striker Mark Bright hopes the buyout is “successful” and helps the club get back into the Premier League.
Neil Mellor, another old boy, echoed those sentiments, posting on Twitter: “Good to hear Sheffield Wednesday finally been taken over. Seems to have been going on ages but glad it’s sorted. Hope it brings good times.”
