Giant Owls striker Atdhe Nuhiu has set his sights on earning a senior call-up to the Austrian squad.
The 26-year-old, who is likely to be involved in some capacity in Wednesday’s clash at lowly Charlton Athletic today, is still waiting to win his first senior cap for his country.
Nuhiu said: “I played for the Under-21s in Austria and did very well. Of course, I would like to a call-up to the full international team.
“I think I have done very well for them to have a look at me. But I cannot infuence that decision, and which type of player he choses. I can help the Austrian national team.”
Nuhiu has vowed to carry on performing at club level as he looks to force his way into Austria head coach Marcel Koller’s plans.
“What I can do is to continue the way that I am working, and if the coach picks me, I am ready,” he said. “It’s his decision.”
Fellow Wednesday forward Lucas Joao received his maiden call-up to the senior Portugal squad yesterday. The former Nacional player will be hoping to feature in their fixtures with Russia and Luxembourg next week.
Joao was watched by a senior member of Portugal’s coaching staff in the Owls’ victory away to neighbours Rotherham United last month. He has bagged four goals in 17 appearances, with his last strike coming in their Capital One Cup triumph over Arsenal.
