'It takes time' - Chris Waddle gives verdict on Sheffield Wednesday's 'promising' start to the season
Sheffield Wednesday have amassed 14 points from their first seven League One matches this season.
Sheffield Wednesday icon Chris Waddle believes the club should be satisfied with its start to the campaign, tipping Henrik Pedersen’s side to improve with time.
Seven games into the League One campaign, Wednesday are currently fourth in the table, two points behind league leaders Plymouth Argyle, who have played two games more.
Despite being in a respectable position after seven games and averaging two points per game, several Wednesdayites have expressed frustration at the manner of Wednesday’s recent performances after they played out back-to-back goalless draws with Wigan Athletic and Stockport County at Hillsborough prior to the international break.
It is hoped that three weeks without a league game, affording Pedersen time on the Middlewood Road training pitches with his players, will trigger an upturn in performances, starting on Saturday when Wednesday travel to Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield Town.
The Owls boss remains in the process of trying to determine his best starting line-up after drafting in 18 new players over the summer, meaning Wednesday are far from the finished article at this early stage of the season.

And in the opinion of Waddle, who spent four years at Hillsborough, Wednesday will be in the conversation for promotion come the end of the season, insisting they will get better as the campaign unfolds.
“I think Sheffield Wednesday have started well and will get better,” Waddle told talkSPORT Bet, who offer the latest sports betting. “I think as the season goes on, they'll get better. With a lot of new signings, it takes time to gel.
“They've had a good start, they have games in hand, though they have a tricky match away at Huddersfield coming up, which will be a proper test. They didn't play great against Stockport at home in the 0-0 draw, but they didn't lose either.
“With so many new signings, the manager is still looking for his best balance and formation, particularly in midfield and up front. But it's been a promising start, and Sheffield Wednesday can only improve as these new players settle in.
“I wouldn't hit the panic button at Sheffield Wednesday at all. I think they'll be right in the mix at the end of the season.”
